How you thinking about (i.e. see) a problem will inform what solutions you see, how you feel and what you do.

So if you (or your team) can change the lens it can have a major impact of your emotions and actions.

By changing your thinking you can change how you feel and what you do.

Immediately!

For example,

Many years ago, my eldest daughter wanted to have a horse-riding party.

She jumped up on her horse along with all of her friends and then unexpectedly for me said ‘come on dad you have to come too’.

I was filled with dread, the horse I was given looked big and unfriendly but I did not want to let my daughter down.

After a while I realized that the horse was just like a big dog.

I love dogs. Instant calm followed and I leaped up on the saddle and proceeded to have a wonderful time.

Notice a small change in your thinking had a multiplier effect.

Switch Thinking aims to help you switch your world view so that you can get unstuck, better adapt to change and see new ideas and opportunities quickly.

Let’s consider another scenario.

The current assumption is that the best way to fight bushfires is with highly trained and motivated people.

This makes sense based on past experience.

This assumption leads to simply employing more people in the future (professional and voluntary).

However, the bushfires of tomorrow are bigger, more dangerous and unpredictable that fires in the past.

Let’s switch this assumption.

The best way to fight bushfires in the future is not with people!

This might lead you to invest more in big data, AI, fire-fighting drones and self driving fire trucks for example.

A small change in thinking has had a big change in what you feel and do.

This is what I call a Switch.

In this example firefighters can be trapped by what has worked in the past.

Yet when the situation changes, they must change as well.

By switching their thinking they open their mind to a new world of possibilities and opportunities.

When this happens (in my workshops) people often experience an aha moment followed by a rush of energy or excitement.

Suddenly they can can see colour rather than black and white.

They can see multiple rather than single options.

They can see progress rather than roadblocks.

There is nothing magical about being able to switch your thinking.

In fact, you are already good at.

I would like to help you transform this capability into a super skill.

In a changing world, the ability to change your thinking is one of your most important skills.
