The new leadership imperative – customisation
It used to be the case that successful leaders could customise their approach depending on the situation.
But astute leaders need to now go the extra step.
Leadership today is all about customisation.
In particular, leaders need to vary their approach to each individual in their group or team.
They have to maintain a dynamic balance between their core values, beliefs, principles and goals and at the same time be flexible enough to adjust for each person.
Leaders need to be able to pivot depending on another person’s:
– personality (e.g. introvert vs extrovert
– strengths and weaknesses
– level of experience
– confidence level
– whether they like the big picture or love the details etc.
Leadership this becomes more complex, individual yet ultimately more effective.
